19 Amateur Blogging Mistakes You Should Avoid

Amateur Blogging Mistakes

Explore the secret of blogging and avoid those amateur blogging mistakes. It will help to start writing successful blogs from the beginning.

Many new bloggers make those amateur blogging mistakes at the beginning of their careers. For few bloggers, it takes a lot of time to find out those blogging mistakes.

When I started my blogging, I have made many mistakes, and with time I have collected all those and have put together in this blog of amateur blogging mistakes, which should be avoided.

None of the bloggers have overnight success or have thousands of traffics on their first blog. Every blogger makes mistakes, but it all depends upon how first you can learn from the errors pointed out by others.

If you want to save your time and be more productive with your blogging carrier, you should know those amateur blogging mistakes and how to get more out of them.

Giving up too early :

Most of the bloggers quit blogging at a very early stage. This is one of the critical Amateur blogging mistakes.

Many of us think about getting success overnight. But all the successful bloggers have suggested not to step into blogging with this kind of mindset.

We get overwhelmed and extremely motivated after seeing the income reports from other bloggers, claiming to make $1K or $2K in a short time.

Getting motivated from others is very important. But don’t make the mistake of comparing yourself with others while you are at the early stage of blogging. In reality, most amateur bloggers fail to continue before reaching the target point and move away.

Many things need to be explored in the field of blogging.

We have to learn every day, and you can compare how much you have learned to the date and how much extra effort is required before your first blog post.

Fix some timelines, maybe three months or six months from now. Next, develop a plan or create tasks like what you already know and what else you have to explore. In this way, you will get some confidence from time to time, and it will be easy for you to keep going.

Also, self-motivation plays a significant role. Along with that, you can regularly watch some other motivational blogger’s videos, which will help you get motivated and learn new things from others.

Using a Free Platform, Not Self Hosting :

This is another biggest amateur blogging mistake that most new bloggers make. I,e choosing a free platform such as Blogger.com or WordPress.com instead of having a self-hosting.

For the newbie, it seems like a free platform is an excellent place to start blogging, but you will be disappointed when scaling your business or promoting your brand.

On a free platform, you don’t have much control over what you can do. Also, it lacks many essential plugins that help to improve the looks and functionality of a site.

Again you will be bound to a limited amount of design features, and you will not be able to have a good-looking and professional site up to your choice.

A free platform is something like that; you don’t own it, and ultimately you are working for the benefit of someone else.

So if you want to have your brand and want to grow in the long run, you should buy a domain, get the best hosting, install WordPress on it, and make it your own forever.

Amateur Blogging Mistakes & seo

Content writing without SEO knowledge :

If you are a blogger by passion or just part of your interest, you can write any content.

But if you think of blogging as a business or consider it your carrier, then your content should be keyword-centric. A proper keyword analysis will help you to get more organic traffics to your site.

Let’s you are ready with your keyword analysis, and you have got a good number of keywords with difficulty levels of 0 to 20. Now the next step will be the positioning of the keywords in the contents. This is where Amateur bloggers fail, and also one of the common blogging mistakes.

As we know, webpage titles and heading tags are part of Google ranking factors, and we must add the keywords on those places. Along with that, we also have to add several times inside the blog content.

Not doing any keyword research :

What is keyword research in SEO?

A keyword can be a single word or combination of words, which people type into the search engine to find what they are looking for. For example, if you were looking for a watch, you may type something like “men wrist watch” into Google. Though the phrase consists of more than one word, it’s still a keyword.

This Keyword research is an integral part of SEO(search engine optimization). But most Amateur Bloggers fail on this concept, and it’s one of the serious Amateur Blogging Mistakes, which should be taken care of for the best output from your blog.

With proper keyword research, you can find out which keywords are easy to rank and which keywords your competitors are ranking and get a good amount of traffic.

We can divide those keywords into three types depending on their length.

  • Short-tail keywords or called generic keywords
  • Mid-tail keywords.
  • Long-tail keywords.

For the newbies or the Amateur Bloggers, the focus should be on the Long-tail keywords. For most of the Long-tail keywords, the keyword difficulty is low, and hence it becomes easy to rank on this. Once you have some more traffic on your site, slowly, you can target for Mid-tail keywords and next for short tail or generic keywords.

There are many free and paid SEO tools that can help with your keyword research.

Some of the Best Search Engine Optimization (SEO) Tools are:

  1. SEMRush
  2. Google Search Console
  3. Ahrefs
  4. Ubersuggest

Choosing Wrong Website Themes :

Many amateur bloggers use free themes, which ultimately reduce the looks of the website. IT doesn’t look that professional. It’s one of the amateur blogging mistakes.

In my view, you should go for a paid theme if you are planning your blogging carrier in the long term and also for good visibility among the other bloggers.

Here are some of the benefits of paid themes compared to free themes.

  •  Paid themes provide many additional features, which free themes don’t have.
  • The paid theme makes the site speed much faster compared to free ones.
  • Paid themes are regularly updated and also take care of site security.
  • With paid themes, you will get better customer support compared to free themes.

For most of my websites, I have used GeneratePress, which is very lightweight and provides an excellent design for the website.

Too many plugins :

A plugin is a piece of software that you can add to your WordPress to extend some of its functionalities, or sometimes it simplifies some of the tasks by adding some new features to WordPress.

Some plugins are helpful. Examples:

  • RankMath
  • Wp-Rocket
  • Moonster-insight
  • Image optimizer.

Every plugin has some benefits, but using a lot of plugins may slow down your site. Also, some plugins open the path for hackers to break your site and steal important pieces of information.

Some Amateur bloggers are not aware of this fact, and they keep adding so many different plugins, and it’s one of the common blogging mistakes.

So you need to be careful while choosing the best plugins for your site.

Building a massive amount of backlinks :

There are hundreds of factors that Google uses to rank a website, but backlinks have an important role out of all those factors. High-quality backlinks help to get a better Google ranking.

But most of the newbie bloggers think that backlink is the only factor that will help them have a better ranking of the site, and they keep on adding hundreds of backlinks from the beginning.

Massive backlinks to a newly launched post are never going to be a good idea. And this is one of the well-known amateur blogging mistakes that we found in common.

Google always tries to deliver valuable information to its users; if there is a page with quality backlinks, it signals to Google that something useful on that page. Always try to have Detailed and Deep content, with 3 to 4 high-quality backlinks at the initial stage, and with time, you have to decide how many more backlinks you need, but never be like a superfast backlink hunter.

With huge backlinks, you will find a spike of your page rank, but its not for a long period. On another side, good content with the required amount of backlinks will help you in the long run.

Wasting time on unnecessary things :

Blogging is not just about writing content. You have to learn many other things to get success in this field. You have to know how to design your website. You have to learn SEO, Link building, Proper keyword research, blog promotions, etc.

Hence this is another amateur blogging mistake, where new bloggers get confused like where to start, and sometimes they waste time on things that are not necessarily required.

In the beginning, we try to get the best domain name. Next, we will try to design a web page that will be best and unique across the internet :), in those processes, a lot of time got invested, and Finally, before reaching the target point, i,e before doing the first blog post, many bloggers quit the game.

Many times you will find the new bloggers will do a lot of research work on google or any other Facebook group, and finally, they will decide, blogging is one of the most challenging works in the world, and we know what will be the final decision 🙂

So the fact is you have to be a little bit calculative, and you have to analyze daily, like what areas the time is being invested in and if it needs some more changes.

Robotic approach for content :

Content is the king

In blogging, the most crucial part is how good you are at writing the content. How much you can connect with your readers. You have to understand what they are looking for and their search intent.

But few Amateur bloggers don’t understand those facts and never care about the contents.

There are many free article spinners available in the market. Few amateur bloggers use those to spin some of the other articles and use them on their site. But before this, we have to understand; our readers are ordinary people like us and not Roberts.

Try to avoid this kind of Amateur blogging mistake from the time you start writing your first blog.

Un-Professional site design :

Your reader’s first impression comes from the looks of your site.

If your site doesn’t look professional, readers will leave most of the time before reading a single line of your blog.

This is one of the common blogging mistakes, and most Amateur bloggers do this. But with time, you have to correct it, and you have to improve the design and looks of your site.

You should have a good theme for the best site design, either a free or paid one. But as mentioned, paid one is always better compared to a free one.

This site is designed with Generatepress, one of the best and lightweight themes, with many features.
